Antipaper – Solange Smith Coverstory

For our cover story featuring Solange for ANTI PAPER, we explored the alternative versions of ourselves we imagine growing up, drawing inspiration from childhood dreams, teenage idols and the question of what might have been. Through conversations with Solange, we developed three distinct personas rooted in different facets of her own identity: the painter and artist, a reality she has made her own; an extravagant character inspired by the elegance of anime and the exaggerated aesthetics of video games; and a femme fatale reminiscent of the French Nouvelle Vague. Brought to life through styling, hair and makeup, set design and attitude, each character inhabits its own visual world, unified by a contemporary lighting approach that connects these imagined identities into a single portrait.
